My name is Zahir Jones and I represent the state of Mississippi region 5 in the state of the American address contest. The issue I am most concerned about is access to health care in our rural communities. Too many Mississippians must travel long distances for care while rural hospitals struggle financially and communities work to recruit doctors, nurses, dentists and midwives. When your zip code determines whether help arrives in time, our founding promises of equality, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness remain unfinished. My vision is the Mississippi Health Bridge, a community-powered partnership linking rural hospitals, county health departments, churches, colleges, libraries and mobile clinics. Each community would host a monthly health bridge day offering screenings, telehealth appointments, preventative education and transportation assistance. Colleges could create service fellowships for health care students while congregations provide trusted meeting places and volunteer networks. This approach would bring care closer while building the relationships that help rural communities attract and retain professionals. I am asking churches, mosques, synagogues, community centers, civic clubs and organizations to open your doors and invite me to speak about this issue. Let us turn every venue into a voice for fixing Mississippi's healthcare. Hear my vision, score my speech online and help bring our state's proposed solutions to a national stage.
